The United States is closely following the trials of 22 people accused of actions related to the tragic events in Karakalpakstan in July, the US Embassy in Tashkent said in a statement.
“We urge the government to fulfill its commitments to public transparency and to hold members of the security forces accountable if they violated Uzbekistani law. We further call on the Ombudsperson-led investigative commission to release its findings as soon as possible,” the statement reads.
On November 28, the court of Bukhara region began to consider the criminal case against 22 people suspected of participating in the riots in Nukus.
Precautionary measures in the form of detention are applied against 20 defendants, 1 of them is under house arrest and 1 is on parole.
