Shavkat Mirziyoyev takes part in the CIS Heads of State Council Meeting

President of Azerbaijan Ilhom Aliyev, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow and Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee – Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev attended the summit chaired by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

In accordance with the meeting agenda, the heads of delegations exchanged views on the development of multilateral cooperation within the organization and the results achieved in this regard, considered the issues of further expansion of relations in the political, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

In his speech, the head of state expressed his point of view on the important directions of strengthening partnership within the CIS. As noted, the complex situation in the world, growing tensions and strategic abstraction require unifying efforts for sustainable development and maximum effective use of the CIS space.

The importance of achieving consistent economic growth in Commonwealth countries was noted. Despite the existing risks, it was noted that it is possible to ensure positive growth rates in all areas within the CIS. Uzbekistan’s trade with member states of the organization has increased by 35% compared to the end of last year.

Cooperation projects are being successfully implemented in mechanical engineering, energy, chemistry, pharmaceutical, textile and other fields. In recent months, more than 800 new enterprises have been launched with partners in the CIS countries.

At the same time, it was pointed out the need to take effective measures to quickly eliminate barriers to mutual trade. The head of state noted the importance of creating favorable conditions for the unhindered supply of food products in the CIS area in order to prevent artificial price increases and curb inflation.

Given the serious threats to the countries’ transport systems, the cooperative development of new logistics corridors is extremely important. Here we are talking about the construction projects of “Termiz – Mazari-Sharif – Kabul – Peshawar” and “China – Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan” railways. They help make the CIS an important chain of transcontinental transport.

In order to expand mutual innovative cooperation and relations in the field of youth, the President proposed to hold the first congress of young scientists of the CIS countries under the slogan “Youth is a supporter of innovation” in Uzbekistan next year.

It was noted that Uzbekistan is ready to actively assist and participate in the implementation of joint projects and programs in education, science, healthcare, sports, culture and art.

The decision to declare St. Petersburg the capital of culture of the CIS in 2023 was supported. In 2024, Samarkand was nominated to be named the capital of culture. In addition, the head of state proposed to hold the Commonwealth Open Chess Cup every year.

At the end of the speech, the leader of Uzbekistan approved the extension of the powers of the chairman of the CIS executive committee – executive secretary Sergey Lebedev for another term and wished success to the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov in his work as chairman of the organization in 2023.

Following the summit, a number of important documents on various fields of multilateral cooperation were adopted.
