From 2023, 30% of the additional funds of regional budgets will be allocated to “Open Budget” projects. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said this at the meeting of the videoconference meeting on the improvement of mahallas and the work carried out within the framework of the nationwide project “Green Space”.
“In general, from next year, the funds for the infrastructure in mahallas will be allocated only to the projects voted by the residents through the “Open Budget”. In this case, funds for “Open Budget” projects will be increased by 3.5 times and will reach 8 trillion soums,” the President said.
In addition, the President stated the need to further expand and publicize the “Open Budget” project and instructed to allocate an additional 335 billion soums for 364 projects that received more than 2,000 votes each, but did not win.
“Then there will be justice, people will definitely protect the projects they contributed to,” he said.
Also, the head of state drew the attention of officials to the fact that the residents of 1,500 mahalla did not vote for any project.
It has been shown that the elections of chairmen were recently held in the mahallas, and the newly elected chairmen made promises to the people, but did not use this opportunity. According to the head of state, passive chairmen should be “awakened” and trained, if necessary.
