Uzbekistan, Iran sign a set of important documents

The meeting of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Raisi, who is in our country on an official visit, was held at the Congress Center in Samarkand.

The head of state assessed Iranian president’s visit as historic and congratulated him on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries.

It was noted with satisfaction that Uzbekistan-Iran relations are developing at a new pace in recent years.

During the talks, the presidents discussed the issues of strengthening bilateral relations, expanding practical cooperation in the political, trade-economic, investment, transport-logistics and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

Special attention was paid to cooperation in trade and transport sectors, cooperation between the regions of the two countries.

The parties noted that in recent years, mutual communication and exchanges have become more active. Trade figures and the number of cooperation projects are increasing. Last year, trade increased by 73%, and since the beginning of this year, it has increased by 15%.

Special attention was paid to cooperation in the field of transport and logistics. It was mentioned that the introduction of road transport by road “Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran”, the effective use of the potential of the “Chabahar” port, and the easing of the conditions for the import and transit of goods will serve to expand the opportunities in this regard.

The importance of activating economic, tourism and cultural relations between the regions of the two countries was noted.

Ebrahim Raisi invited the President of Uzbekistan to visit Iran at a time convenient for him.

High-level Uzbekistan-Iran talks were held in an effective and practical spirit. At the end of the meeting, 18 documents covering various areas of cooperation were signed.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi signed a joint statement. The main agreements were noted and long-term tasks for the further expansion of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries were defined.

At the end of the negotiations, bilateral agreements and memorandums were signed. These are:

  • agreement on simplification of visa procedures for representatives of business and scientific circles and tourist groups;
  • agreement on bilateral exemption of holders of diplomatic passports from visa requirements;
  • cooperation program in the field of tourism in 2022-2025;
  • memorandum on mutual understanding in the fields of science, technology and innovation;
  • memorandum on the exchange of electronic customs information on the movement of goods and vehicles across the customs border;
  • memorandum on the exchange of electronic information on E-TIR;
  • memorandum on cooperation in the fields of science, research, education and technology;
  • agreement between the ministries of agriculture;
  • memorandum on cooperation in the field of healthcare, treatment, scientific research, education, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment;
  • memorandum on cooperation in the field of sports;
  • memorandum on cooperation in oil, gas and petrochemical industries;
  • memorandum on implementation of international cargo transportation and transit through the port of “Chabahar”;
  • cooperation program between the ministries of foreign affairs in 2022-2024;
  • memorandum on employment and labor relations issues.

In addition, documents were signed between the Institute of Oriental Studies of Uzbekistan named after Abu Rayhan and the Iranian Archive Organization and National Library, and between the Ibn Sina funds of the two countries.
