Finland allocates €1.5 million to Uzbekistan for implementing a project in ensuring rule of law
The project is primarily aimed at expanding access to justice for low-income citizens by increasing free legal aid.
The project is implemented in cooperation with the office of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in the country and is designed for 3 years. The corresponding document was signed by Finnish Ambassador to Uzbekistan Ilkka Räisänen and UNDP representative Matilda Dimovska.
The project aims to expand access to justice for low-income citizens by expanding free legal aid and strengthening the central and regional capacity of the ombudsman’s office to protect and promote the human rights of vulnerable groups.
Expert support for the project will be provided by the Center for the Rule of Law at the University of Helsinki, which is headed by former Minister of Justice Tuija Brax. A group of specialists from the center visited the country on August 23-25 this year.
