Leaders of 15 countries to attend SCO summit in Samarkand

According to the presidential press service, the summit will be attended by the leaders of all member states including the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of China Xi Jinping, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon. 

The presidents of three observer states namely Belarus (Aleksandr Lukashenko), Iran (Ebrahim Raisi) and Mongolia (Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh) have also confirmed their participation.

In addition, the leaders of the following five guest countries will participate in the summit: the President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.

Reportedly, the summit will be the first face-to-face meeting of SCO leaders since 2019 and the end of Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in the organization.

“The main emphasis during the chairmanship of Uzbekistan was placed on such important priorities of cooperation within the organization as strengthening economic and trade ties, promoting industrial cooperation, expanding transport and communication interconnectedness, digital transformation and the green economy, consolidating the international authority of the SCO,” the message says.

It should be recalled that at the end of August, the national coordinator of Uzbekistan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Rahmatulla Nurimbetov held a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on preparations for the upcoming Samarkand summit of the organization.

Answering journalists’ questions, he noted that the leaders of all SCO member states had confirmed their in-person participation in the work of the SCO summit in Samarkand.
