ADB to allocate $161 million to improve drinking water supply system in Uzbekistan

A loan agreement has been signed between Uzbekistan and the Asian Development Bank for the implementation of the project “construction and reconstruction of drinking water supply and sewerage systems in cities and districts of Tashkent region (stage III)”.

The document is aimed at increasing the level of provision of drinking water and sewerage services to the population and business entities of the cities of Angren, Bekabad, Almalyk, Akhangaran, Chirchik, Yangiyul and the Chinaz district of Tashkent region, as well as further improvement of the sanitary-epidemiological and ecological state of these territories.

As part of the agreement, ADB approved the allocation of loans to Uzbekistan in the amount of $161 million with a repayment period of 25 years, including a grace period of 5 years.

The total cost of the project is $185.8 million. $24.8 million will be Uzbekistan’s contribution in the form of VAT exclusion and provision of customs benefits.

The project implementation period is 5 years (2022–2027).
