According to Burkhanov, in 2021, 184 corruption crimes were committed in Tashkent, as a result of which the interests of the state and society suffered material damage in the amount of 82 billion 638 million soums.

The highest rates of corruption in the capital were noted in Uchtepa (33), Mirabad (25), Chilanzar (20), Mirzo-Ulugbek (20) and Yashnabad (18) districts.

“Over the past three months (February-April), the city of Tashkent occupies one of the first places in the country in terms of the level of corruption crimes. In particular, it took 2nd place with 37 criminal cases in February and 50 in March, and in April – 1st place with 69 criminal cases.

The city of Tashkent also leads in the number of cases of misuse of budget funds, which is one of the main indicators of the rating. In particular, according to the results of the rating in February, it took third place in the country in terms of misuse of funds in the amount of 5 billion 740 million soums in 16 control points. In March, in terms of misuse of funds in the amount of 29 billion 23 million soums in 80 control points, it took the second place,” Kun.uz correspondent quotes Akmal Burkhanov as saying.

“Have you encountered corruption?” During the survey, 26% of respondents living in the capital answered “yes” to this question, which is the second indicator after the Bukhara region.

According to the head of the department, in just March and April 2022, 244 such reports about the possibility of committing corruption offenses were published in the media and social networks of Uzbekistan, of which 124 or 50% were in Tashkent.

In addition, the city of Tashkent is one of the leading regions in terms of complaints of corruption to the Virtual Reception Office of the President and the People’s Reception Office. Thus, in the first quarter of 2022, a total of 4,372 applications were received from individuals and legal entities, or an average of 45 per 100,000 people.

The activities of the Regional Anti-Corruption Council, which unites the heads of about 40 of the most important, authoritative departments and organizations of the capital, do not deserve praise either.

“The City Anti-Corruption Council does not come up with any initiatives. We can see this in the fact that, according to the results of the rating of regional anti-corruption councils of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions and the city of Tashkent in 2021, the capital council was not rated at all for the belated and erratic submission of data.

At the end of June, an assessment of similar areas for the first half of 2022 will be carried out and all the results will be announced in the media and discussed at a meeting of the National Council. We hope that this period will have positive results,” Akmal Burkhanov, head of the anti-corruption body, said.
