Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the law “On advertising” in a new edition, Spot reports referring to the press service of the Justice Ministry.

The document will enter into force three months after its official publication. It replaces the current law passed in 1998.

Under the new law, the followings are prohibited:

•  product advertising in educational materials, including textbooks, school notebooks and diaries;
•  displaying prices and tariffs in foreign currency in advertising;
•  advertising of information products (films, games , etc. ) without displaying the age classification;
•  the use in the materials of images, forms and expressions “contradicting national and family customs, as well as generally accepted norms of behavior and spirituality”.

In order to protect minors from abuse of their trust and inexperience, it is also prohibited:

•  to show in advertising minors in dangerous situations, or the commission by them of actions risky for their life and health;
•  showing disrespect to parents and caregivers, damaging their trust;
•  advertising of goods prohibited for purchase or use by minors on TV channels intended for them, in television and radio programs.

In addition, it is forbidden to use celebrities, medical workers or persons who look like medical workers in drug advertisements.

TV ads should be limited to 20% (12 minutes) for one hour – currently a maximum of 10% (6 minutes) is allowed. TV shows up to 10 minutes long must not be accompanied by commercials or interrupted by commercial breaks.

Advertising time should not exceed 15% of the daily broadcast. An exception is made for specialized advertising channels.

The new version was developed and presented to the relevant Senate Committee in February – it was noted that it would replace the outdated current law. The document also streamlines the placement of outdoor advertising and changes the advertising language policy.
