Meta Platforms Inc. filed an application for registration of the Meta Pay trademark in Uzbekistan. The corresponding entry appeared in the database of the Justice Ministry “Intellektual mulk”, Spot reports.

The company that runs Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp applied on May 16. It includes the following categories of activities:

•  downloadable software for online payments and the purchase of goods and services, an electronic financial platform;
•  financial services, processing of transactions from electronic cards;
•  providing software for processing transactions and online transfers, including in cryptocurrencies.

Meta Pay is the new name that Mark Zuckerberg’s corporation has chosen to rebrand its payment system. From 2009 until today, it has been operating as Facebook Pay. Under this name, it has penetrated 160 countries and accepts payments in 55 currencies.

Head of fintech at Meta Stefan Kazriel said that Meta Pay will become a “single wallet” for users. With it, it will be possible to pay for digital items in the future metauniverse from the company.

In addition, the service promises to help creators and businesses with customer service. According to Kazriel, Meta’s mission is to “ensure everyone has access to the global financial system” which will “accelerate the achievement of financial inclusion”.

Zuckerberg announced the rebranding of Facebook in October 2021. At the same time, he said that the company in the coming years will focus on the project of the virtual “metavuniverse” – this, among other things, is reflected in its name.

Since then, the corporation has been renaming products in accordance with the new name – so, Oculus Quest became Meta Quest. Also, the founder of Facebook promotes the terminology associated with Meta, for example, he began to call employees Metamates (“meta-friends”).
