Uzbek Greco-Roman wrestler Sultanbek Elmuratov has been banned from competitions for four years due to doping, the National Anti-Doping Agency said.
It is noted that, according to the decision of the ethics commission under the National Anti-Doping Agency of Uzbekistan, the banned substance Furosemide was found in the doping sample of the athlete.
Elmuratov was suspended for 4 years for an anti-doping violation under Article 2.1 of the World Anti-Doping Code from December 23, 2021, to December 22, 2025.
Furosemide is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) because it quickly removes illegal drugs (erythropoietin, hormones) from the body.
Traces of furosemide are found in the samples of athletes in various sports every year in about 100 cases. In synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics, the substance is used to control weight.
