The nuclear power plant, the construction of which is planned in the Jizzakh region, will pay off at any cost. This statement was made by the Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Oleg Malginov at the annual reporting press conference in Tashkent.
“This project will move smoothly. We proceed from the premise that the process will be resolved constructively and in the interests of all Central Asian states. No matter how much money is spent on its construction, it will pay off. The main thing is that it meets the energy requirements of Uzbekistan,” the ambassador said.
The head of the diplomatic mission recalled: now the project for the construction of a nuclear power plant in the republic is being implemented so far only at the expert level of experts. Thus, the question of what type of reactors to choose for the future plant is being discussed.
At the same time, the ambassador continued, there are countries that would not like to implement this project – in particular, because Uzbekistan has chosen a Russian partner.
It should be recalled that in early September 2018, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and the head of the government of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov signed an agreement on cooperation in the construction of an NPP on the territory of the republic.
Rosatom plans to build a complex of two “3+” generation power units with VVER-1200 reactors. It should be operational by 2030. A priority site for the construction of a nuclear power plant, located near Lake Tuzkan in the Jizzakh region, has already been identified.
