Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations announces official unemployment rate in Uzbekistan

In January-September 2021, the unemployment rate in Uzbekistan was 9.4%, down by 1.7% compared to the same period last year and by 0.4% compared to January-June 2021. The statement came from the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations.
The number of working-age people was 19.3 million during the reporting period, an increase of 1.1% or 201.4 thousand people compared to the same period in 2020.
The number of people employed in different sectors of the economy amounted to 13.6 million people, up by 3.1% (403.9 thousand people) in comparison with the same period last year.
In the first 9 months, the number of people employed in the official sector amounted to 6.1 million people, and in comparison with the same period in 2020, their number increased by 7.9% or by 450.5 thousand people.
The number of those employed in the informal sector amounted to 5.9 million people, a decrease of 4.1% or 254.0 thousand people compared to January-June this year.
The total number of people in need of work was 1.4 million, and the unemployment rate among the economically active population was 9.4%. The unemployment rate among 16-30 year-olds was 14.9%, and the unemployment rate among women was 12.8%.
In January-September this year, the economically inactive population of the country amounted to 4.3 million people, an increase of 0.6% or 26.3 thousand people compared to the same period last year.
