It was noted that 4,000 children were adopted in 2017 using the adoption institute introduced in the national legislation, in 2018 this figure was 4.1 thousand, and in 2019 – 4.3 thousand.
Today, the number of people waiting in line for adoption remains much higher than the number of adoptive parents. As a result, cases of illegal adoption, including child trafficking, are on the rise.
The new law provides for amendments to the Family Code and the Law on Guardianship and Sponsorship.
Now the law provides for the possibility of adoption and guardianship of those who have served a sentence, committed crimes of minor social significance. Thus, it does not prevent their child adoption.
It is planned that the Cabinet of Ministers will approve the list of persons suffering from diseases that prevent child adoption, taking into account the highest interests of the child.
