President Mirziyoyev proposes unfreezing Afghan assets in foreign banks

The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed to unfreeze Afghan accounts in foreign banks frozen after the change of government in Afghanistan.
“Given the current humanitarian situation, we propose to consider the possibility of unfreezing Afghan accounts in foreign banks,” Mirziyoyev said, speaking at the anniversary summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Dushanbe.
He suggested holding regular high-level meetings in the SCO-Afghanistan format in connection with the current situation in the Islamic republic.
“To consolidate efforts and broadly discuss issues of settlement in Afghanistan, we propose to regularly hold high-level meetings with the involvement of observer states and partners in the SCO-Afghanistan format,” Mirziyoyev said and expressed his readiness to hold the first such meeting in Uzbekistan.
