Uzbekistan takes a major step towards transition to “green energy”
A modern 100-megawatt solar photovoltaic plant has been launched in the Karmana district, Navoi region. It produces 252 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. This will save 80 million cubic meters of natural gas and prevent the release of 160,000 tons of volatile gases into the atmosphere.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev began his visit to the Navoi region from Karmana district. The head of state delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of a new solar power plant built here.
“Today, a modern solar photovoltaic plant with a capacity of 100 megawatts is being launched in the Karmana district, which is the first step towards the transition to “green energy”. I sincerely congratulate all of you on this joyous occasion.
First of all, it should be noted that a large amount of work has been done under this project in a short period of time. In particular, the investment of $110 million and the installation of 300,000 solar panels is truly a great event in the history of our industry.
It produces 252 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. This will save 80 million cubic meters of natural gas and prevent the release of 160,000 tons of volatile gases into the atmosphere,” the President said.
The President noted that this station is the first such huge step in the energy system of New Uzbekistan, in other words, the “first swallow” and marks the beginning of a completely new era in the industry’s development.
“It is known that an average of 320 sunny days a year are observed in our country. But until now, the issue of using such a huge potential has been neglected,” the President said.
According to experts, Uzbekistan has the potential to generate a total of 600 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity through the construction of solar power plants. This is more by 8 times than the total energy needs of the republic today.
