MPs considering a bill that toughens responsibility for resisting government officials
A regular meeting of the faction of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan took place in the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis.

During the meeting, a number of draft laws were considered in the second reading, including “On insolvency”, “On advertising”, “On amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Administrative Responsibility Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, “On amendments and additions to some legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, “On amendments and additions to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On water and water use”.
The bill “On amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Administrative Responsibility Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, as well as in the first reading, caused sparkling discussions.
In accordance with the bill developed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, some amendments are being made to the Criminal Code and the Administrative Responsibility Code. The sanctions under the first part of Article 219 of the Criminal Code (resistance to a representative of the authorities or a person performing a civic duty) are being tightened. That is, the size of the fine will increase from 50 to 100 BCAs, the punishment will be from 1 to 3 years in prison, and the penalty in the form of imprisonment will increase from 1 to 3 years.
“The People’s Democratic Party has repeatedly stated that it takes a firm position against an unjustified increase in the size of fines, explaining this by the fact that the size of fines is much higher than the income of citizens. During the discussion of the bill, the MPs once again drew attention to this issue, stressed how legitimate the actions of a civil servant are. For example, in the event of the forced demolition of housing and buildings, the readiness of employees of the internal affairs bodies for this process,” the lower house of parliament says in a statement.
The bill was approved by a majority of votes for submission to the Oliy Majlis plenary session.
