Uzbek authorities count on US support in the issue of the republic’s accession to the WTO in the status of a developing country.
According to Dunyo IA, within the framework of the visit of the Uzbek delegation led by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov to the United States, meetings of the First Deputy Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Laziz Kudratov with representatives of official circles took place in Washington.
In the course of negotiations with the office of the US Trade Representative, the issues of preparation for the 5th meeting of the working group on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO, assistance of the American side in assigning the republic the status of a developing country, as well as the organization in September of regular bilateral consultations with the participation of members of the Uzbek interdepartmental commission on work with the WTO and representatives of the office of the US Trade Representative were agreed.
Separately, the introduction of a new interaction mechanism was discussed – a monthly virtual commercial dialogue between the Department of Investment and Foreign Trade and the US Department of Commerce with the participation of large American companies.
An agreement was also reached to hold, starting from July, the first three meetings in the fields of renewable energy, agriculture and ICT.
“The purpose of these meetings is to discuss the implementation of joint programs to implement the American experience in relation to standards and regulatory frameworks, as well as investment projects in strategic sectors of the economy, with the participation of leading US companies in their industries,” the report concludes.
