“75% of those wanted in 2020 are still not detained” – Senator

The crime rate in Uzbekistan has increased by 35% and serious and very serious crimes by 49%, Narimon Umarov, chairman of the Senate Committee, said. 

Of the 9,790 people wanted by law enforcement agencies in 2020 on suspicion of committing crimes, 6,761 have not been arrested. Only 25% of those wanted have been apprehended.

This was stated by the chairman of the Senate Committee on Judicial Affairs and Anti-Corruption Narimon Umarov at the plenary session on April 23.

“The total crime rate increased by 34.7%, serious and very serious crimes by 49%, including intentional homicide – 13%, grievous bodily harm – 13%, rape – 27.7% and aggression – 18.5%,” he noted.
