Uzbekistan, Pakistan ready to strengthen trade relations, consider resuming air communication

On April 14, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held an online summit with Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan.

As the press service of the head of state reported, the agenda included topical issues of the Uzbek-Pakistani multifaceted partnership, including the development of a constructive political dialogue, expansion of practical interaction in the areas of trade, investment, transport and transit, exchanges between regions, promotion of cultural-humanitarian cooperation programs.

“At the beginning of the conversation, the parties exchanged sincere congratulations on the start of the holy month of Ramadan, wishing the friendly peoples peace, well-being and prosperity. It was noted with deep satisfaction that regular contacts at the highest levels in recent years have contributed to the dynamic development of bilateral relations, filling them with concrete content,” the report reads.

During the online summit, the main tasks were substantively considered and priority measures were identified to deepen the partnership and practical interaction between Uzbekistan and Pakistan. A schedule of upcoming events was agreed upon.

Special attention was paid to the continuation of a constructive political dialogue, inter-parliamentary ties and close contacts within the framework of international and regional structures.

An agreement was reached to take additional measures to promote priority projects in the field of transport and transit, create favorable conditions for increasing trade and strengthening industrial cooperation, including the adoption of an agreement on preferential trade and a “roadmap” for cooperation in the main sectors of the economy, holding joint business forums.

In addition, the issues of the resumption of air communication between the countries will be studied. The sides separately exchanged views on the issues of an early peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan. Support was expressed for efforts aimed at the earliest possible economic recovery of the IRA.

Following the meeting, a joint statement was adopted, and a number of important documents were signed in the field of standardization and metrology, agriculture and other areas.
