The Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction has released data on the number of labor migrants.
As of January 1, 2021, a total of 1,678,400 citizens of Uzbekistan went abroad for work. The figure is down by 782.4 thousand people compared to January 1, 2020.
481.1 thousand (28.7%) of migrants are women and 993.7 thousand (59.2%) are young people.
According to the ministry, 1,192,800 Uzbek citizens work in Russia (71%), 209,300 (12%) – in Kazakhstan, 62,300 (4%) – in South Korea, 43,200 (3%) – in Turkey, 5,200 – in the UAE and 165.6 people – in other countries.
It is estimated that 511,600 people were forced to suspend their activities abroad due to the coronavirus pandemic.
49% of those returned worked in the field of construction, 10.4% – in trade and services, 11.1% – in industry, 7.8% – in agriculture and 20.9% – in other fields.
