It is planned that within the framework of the project, three PVPs with a total capacity of 500 MW will be built. Investors will be determined based on the results of tenders.
The start of the third project is scheduled for February 2021. Power plants are planned to be constructed in Bukhara, Namangan and Khorezm regions.
It should be reminded that on October 18, 2019, Masdar (UAE) won the tender for the construction of a 100 MW power plant in the Navoi region within the framework of “Scaling Solar 1”. The Government of Uzbekistan signed an agreement with the International Finance Corporation on attracting consulting services and increasing the capacity for the Scaling Solar project up to 1000 MW.
Following the agreement, at the beginning of 2020, a tender was announced for the construction of 2 power plants as part of the “Scaling Solar 2” project in the Samarkand and Jizzakh regions with a total capacity of 400 MW. A tender is currently underway for these projects.
Uzbekistan is implementing a large-scale renewable energy strategy, within the framework of which it is planned to generate up to 5 GW of cost-effective and environmentally friendly solar energy in the next 10 years. The strategy is aimed at meeting the growing demand for electricity.
