Laboratories identifying GMOs in products to be built in Bukhara and Namangan

Uzbekistan attracted loans from the World Bank for the construction of laboratories in Bukhara and Namangan to determine the amount of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in food, the press secretary of the Uzstandard agency Abdurauf Rasulov said at a briefing held at the AIMC.

According to Rasulov, practical work has begun on the modernization of testing laboratories within the framework of the UzTest agent system based on a loan from the World Bank.

Thanks to the loan, the Republican Center will be able to determine the quality and safety of food and agricultural products in accordance with international standards. Laboratories will be created in Bukhara and Namangan regions.

As a result of the study conducted in the country by an international expert (representative of the Latvian BIOR Institute), it is planned to modernize food and agricultural testing laboratories in the republic. The project cost is $11.6 million.
