Taliban’s Qatar office head expresses gratitude to President Mirziyoyev for his efforts to achieve peace in Afghanistan
On February 28, within the framework of their visit to Doha, a delegation of Uzbekistan headed by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the head of the Taliban’s Qatar office, Mullah Baradar Akhund.

According to the MFA press service, during the meeting the parties discussed issues related to the advancement of the peace political process in Afghanistan.
“Mullah Baradar expressed sincere gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his constant attention to the problems of Afghanistan. He acknowledged that thanks to the efforts of Uzbekistan, the Afghan conflict has been again in the spotlight of the world community,” the statement of the Foreign Ministry reads.
The head of the Taliban’s Qatar office emphasized that Uzbekistan has always been and remains the most reliable friend of the Afghan people, despite the ups and downs of history, which has become especially clear at the present time, when Afghanistan is in dire need of peace and economic assistance more than ever.
“At the same time, Mullah Baradar particularly noted Uzbekistan’s efforts to launch a peaceful political process in Afghanistan, implement various economic projects in the country, the main purpose of which is the welfare and progress of the Afghan people, the prosperity of Afghanistan as a peaceful and stable country,” the Foreign Ministry noted.
In addition, the delegation of Uzbekistan met with the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad and German representative Markus Potzel.
It should be recalled that on February 29, in Doha, representatives of the United States and the Taliban movement signed a peace deal.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of about 30 countries. In particular, Uzbekistan was represented by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov.
