Until August 1, 2020, Uzbekistan will develop a draft program for reducing the poverty rate. This is stated in the draft State Program for 2020.

The draft program provides for developing the concept of poverty, methodology and criteria for its determination.
In addition, it provides for:
- comprehensive measures to develop modern business and entrepreneurship skills among the population, especially among young people and women;
- effective mechanisms to support entrepreneurial initiatives, primarily contributing to the solution of social problems;
- creating conditions for wide access of business entities to financial resources, including microfinance services, as well as public procurement;
- implementation of large-scale programs for retraining the unemployed population and training unemployed citizens in relevant professions.
It should be recalled that on January 27, Tanzila Narbayeva reported that in Uzbekistan the number of poor people is 5 million people.
Earlier, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his address to the parliament said that the poverty level in the country is about 12-15 percent.
“In order to reduce poverty, we must pursue a comprehensive economic and social policy to awaken the entrepreneurial spirit of the population, to fully realize the human potential, create new jobs.
Therefore, I propose to develop a poverty reduction program together with the World Bank, the UNDP and other international organizations. At the same time, it is necessary to conduct in-depth studies based on international norms and create a new methodology covering the concept of “poverty”, criteria for its identification and assessment methods,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said then.
