The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Great Britain as the final stage of the EECAN (Eastern Europe and Central Asia Network) UK Roadshow – a program of on-site presentations in a number of British cities with the participation of representatives of the business community from 14 countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
The London Forum, which brought together over 150 representatives of the British political, business and financial circles and the diplomatic corps, discussed prospects for expanding trade, economic, technological and financial cooperation between the UK and the EECAN states after the country’s withdrawal from the European Union.
In a separate session on Central Asia, the British side noted new broad opportunities opening up for Great Britain in this region, including due to positive changes in Uzbekistan.
During his speech, Said Rustamov spoke about the ongoing processes of large-scale reforms in the country, the priorities for further accelerated modernization in Uzbekistan with emphasis on economic liberalization, as well as the main directions of foreign policy and foreign economic strategy. Special attention was paid to issues of interaction with the UK, the dynamic implementation of the existing significant potential for cooperation in various areas.
On the sidelines of talks with representatives of the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Great Britain, as well as the country’s Trade Commissioner for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Judith Slater, directions for expanding bilateral relations, including the participation of the British side in the first Tashkent International Investment Forum, which will be held on March 5-6, 2020, were discussed.
