Head of Uzbekistan Airways may be dismissed

On January 29, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution “On consideration of the personal responsibility of certain leaders”.
According to the document, at the extraordinary general meeting of shareholders of Uzbekistan Railways JSC and Uzbekistan Airways, the following issues will be considered:
- dismissal of Khusniddin Khasilov from the post of board chairman of Uzbekistan Railways JSC and his appointment as acting board chairman of this company;
- suitability of Bakhtiyor Khakimov to the position of acting manager of the company Uzbekistan Airways.
It should be reminded that during his address to the parliament on January 24, Shavkat Mirziyoyev criticized the transport sector.
The President emphasized that Uzbekistan kept its borders closed for so long. As a result, neighboring countries overtook the republic in this area.
“If 16 million tons of cargo is transported through Uzbekistan, how much money will it bring? Where is the Minister of Transport? Where are the deputy prime ministers? It is high time for them to wake up,” he said.
Mirziyoyev emphasized that many officials still work in accordance with the old system. There is no initiative.
“The railways are old. Officials are sitting, and every year they raise tariffs by 10% and that’s all. During this time, neighboring countries built transit roads bypassing Uzbekistan. Our task is to make our country a major transit route again,” the president said.
