Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Latvia Kadambay Sultanov met in Riga with the Head of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Group with Uzbekistan in the Seimas of Lithuania, Valerijus Simulik, the MFA press service reports.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the results of Valerijus Simulik’s visit to Uzbekistan in December 2019 as an international observer in the elections of deputies to Oliy Majlis and local Councils. Prospects for further development of multifaceted cooperation were also discussed.
Valerijus Simulik positively assessed the high level organization of the electoral process in Uzbekistan, which was held under the motto “New Uzbekistan – New Elections”. As it was emphasized, the assessment is based on the results of visits to 14 polling stations.
The parties noted with satisfaction the dynamic development of bilateral cooperation in trade and education. It was noted that Lithuania is interested in building up a diplomatic and trade-investment presence in Uzbekistan and developing mutually beneficial partnership with the republic in a number of areas of mutual interest.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on the saturation of the agenda of upcoming bilateral contacts, including through parliaments, as well as relevant universities and economic structures of Uzbekistan and Lithuania.
