Interior Ministry: More than 1,700 citizens of Uzbekistan are on the international wanted list

On December 26, the Agency for Information and Mass Communications hosted an event on the topic “International Cooperation in the Internal Affairs Bodies and Interpol National Central Bureau in the Republic of Uzbekistan”. It was attended by the heads of the international cooperation department of the MIA and the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Uzbekistan.
Head of the information processing and coordination department at the Interpol National Central Bureau Olimkhon Ergashev provided information on the number of Uzbek nationals, who are listed on the international wanted list.
“As a result of international cooperation, 1,402 wanted persons were detained in 2017-2019. They are mainly suspected of fraud, theft and burglary. In the first 11 months of this year, 588 individuals, wanted by law enforcement bodies, were detained abroad for committing various crimes. Currently, over 1,700 citizens of Uzbekistan are on the international wanted list, most of whom are charged with terrorism and human trafficking,” Kun.uz correspondent quoted him as saying.
Ergashev added that the sub-system will provide preliminary information about the location (country) of the suspects, before their detention. Then the internal affairs bodies of that country will be contacted and they will start the search. After the suspect is detained, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan will be notified. In accordance with the international requirement, the detainee will be put under arrest for one month as a preventive measure.
