Vyacheslav Volodin: Uzbekistan and Russia should harmonize legislation in order to confront common challenges

Russian and Uzbek parliamentarians need to focus on creating model laws, the Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin said.
“When we talk about the parliamentary dimension, the most important thing is that we need to think about model laws and harmonization of legislation. There are common challenges that we can only overcome together, it is necessary to develop legislative solutions to these issues,” Vyacheslav Volodin said. Among the common challenges that need to be resolved in cooperation, he named drug trafficking, terrorism and migration problems.
“Today relations between our countries began to develop dynamically. In just two-three years 11 inter-parliamentary meetings took place, trade turnover in 2018 increased by 21.2% and reached $4.4 billion. Ou goal now is set to increase this figure to $10 billion.
Russia is the leading investor in Uzbekistan’s economy, and we are second to only China in terms of trade turnover – the difference between the first and second lines is only 2%,” the Chairman of the State Duma stressed.
Vyacheslav Volodin emphasized that it is extremely important to legislatively ensure the development of relations. In this regard, parliamentarians set themselves the task of intensifying inter-parliamentary cooperation – on Monday, the State Duma of Russia and the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan signed a cooperation agreement.
“This is necessary in order to move on to specific forms of work. Within the framework of the Agreement, our profile committees will more closely build their work. So that we will be able to create structures to solve specific problems,” Volodin said.
It is about creating a high-level Commission – similar formats already exist between the State Duma and the parliaments of China, Iran, Kazakhstan and France.
