The press service of the US Embassy in Uzbekistan commented on the closure of the Citizenship and Immigration Services in Uzbekistan.
According to the report of the press service, the Bureau of Consular Affairs of the State Department has long worked in close cooperation with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) both in the country and abroad, and will closely coordinate any changes in the presence of USCIS abroad, if an interdepartmental agreement is reached.
“The consular department provides services on behalf of USCIS in more than 200 consulates around the world. If the USCIS offices abroad are curtailed, we expect a smooth transition and continue effective work related to USCIS in all our missions abroad,” the embassy representatives noted.
It also became known that the State Department will work closely with the Department of Homeland Security and USCIS to coordinate the necessary inter-agency agreements to prevent a break in the provision of immigration services to applicants.
Earlier, The Washington Post reported that USCIS is preparing to close all its offices in 21 countries. Functions such as issuing family visas, adopting and processing requests for US citizenship will be redistributed among the embassies and consulates of the United States in their respective countries.
USCIS informed in early February it will close its office in Moscow on March 29. The bureau in Athens will take over issues related to immigration from the RF, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
