At the initiative of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Kuala Lumpur, the Mufti of the Malaysian state of Perlis Dr. Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin was appointed the honorary ambassador of Ziyorat-Tourism (Pilgrimage tourism) of Uzbekistan. The corresponding certificate was presented to him during the First International Ziyorat-Tourism Forum, held on February 21-23, 2019 in Bukhara.
Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin has a doctorate in Islamic theology and is a prominent Islamic figure in Malaysia. For a long time, he has been teaching at the Malaysian Scientific University, the University of Wales and the Center for Islamic Studies at the University of Oxford (UK).
In order to inform the people of Malaysia about Islamic cultural values and the rich spiritual and historical heritage of our republic, he regularly holds relevant thematic lectures and sermons during Friday prayers in the central mosques of Malaysia. Also, the honorary ambassador, who has more than 1.1 million followers on Facebook, is actively promoting Uzbekistan in social networks as an attractive destination for pilgrim tours.
Along with this, the mufti is working on the formation of tourist groups to visit Uzbekistan with the obligatory inclusion of Islamic scholars of Malaysia. According to the results of his participation in the Forum held in Kuala Lumpur, a seminar on the theme “New Uzbekistan: the homeland of Islamic scholars” is planned with the participation of prominent Islamic figures of Malaysia.
