FC Pakhtakor to start building a new stadium in 2020

Work on the construction of a new arena for FC Pakhtakor will begin in January 2020, club director Dmitry Adisman told Kun.uz correspondent.
“It has already been decided that we will start construction from January 1, 2020. Prior to that, we will carry out all the survey work,” he said.
It was initially stated that demolition of the current stadium was to begin by the end of 2017. However, because of the exploration work and increase in the cost of the project, the starting date of construction had to be shifted.
According to Adisman, there is an underground river flowing under the stadium, which complicates the work. “The project is becoming more expensive, we will have to make a huge number of piles at a depth of 80 meters. This costs a lot of money,” the general director noted.
In total, there are 16 concepts of an indoor stadium. The previously declared capacity of the sports facility remains unchanged – up to 30,000 people.
Until 2012, “Pakhtakor” was the main stadium where the national football team of Uzbekistan held home games. Construction of the arena was completed in 1956. Today it accommodates 35,000 fans.
