In 2018, the ombudsman received 10,832 applications (in 2017 – 9,074) from citizens of Uzbekistan, citizens of foreign countries and ombudsmen, public organizations and other legal entities, the press release of the Legislative Chamber said.
37% of them addressed the issue of ensuring personal rights and freedom of a person and a citizen, 34,9% – social issues, 25,1% – economic issues, 2,3% – political issues and 0,7% – environmental issues.
It is noted that the ombudsman successfully applied the legislative powers introduced in 2017.
The rights were realized on submitting proposals to committees of the chambers of parliament on hearing their reports from representatives of state authorities and administration, submissions to the heads of state bodies and other organizations on elimination of revealed violations of legislation in the field of human rights and freedoms, the causes and conditions that encourage responsibility of persons whose actions violate human rights and freedoms, statements and lawsuits in courts in the interests of citizens without paying state duties.
During the year, within the framework of the “schedule for organizing and conducting monitoring-analytical measures to prevent torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment” approved jointly with the Parliament Chambers, more than 70 institutions covered by the national preventive mechanism were made monitoring visits.
Cabinet of deputies, national institutions for protection of human rights, non-governmental non-profit organizations, international public organization Human Rights Watch and the UN Children's Fund in Uzbekistan participated in these visits.
Ombudsman received more than 10,000 complaints in 2018
