Uzbekistan eyes to get the “GSP +” status

On February 4-7, the first round of negotiations on the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) between the EU and the Republic of Uzbekistan was held in Tashkent, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

Representative delegations of the parties were led by Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Dilshod Akhatov and Deputy Managing Director of the European External Action Service Luc Devin.

The parties came to a common understanding on the structure of the draft Agreement and, divided into three groups, discussed in detail and constructively all sections of the draft document, identifying possible mutually beneficial provisions.

By joint agreement, meetings of experts on the trade section of the draft Agreement with the participation of representatives from relevant ministries of Uzbekistan will continue until the end of the week.

It was decided to hold the second round of negotiations on the PCA in Brussels.

As part of the EU delegation’s visit, consultations were held on the preparation of the application of Uzbekistan for the status of “Generalized System of Preferences Plus” (“GSP +”). A briefing was organized for representatives of business circles on the benefits of obtaining the “GSP +” status.
