On January 9, 2019, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Austria Sherzod Asadov presented his credentials to the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Yuri Fedotov, as Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Vienna.
In a conversation after the brief ceremony, Yuri Fedotov highly appreciated the dynamic development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN. He stated that UNODC considers Uzbekistan a very important partner and positively assesses the changes in the socio-political and socio-economic spheres under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, which open up new horizons for deepening interaction.
The parties stressed their interest in continuing to work together effectively to reduce the consumption and trafficking of drugs, the fight against organized crime and international terrorism.
The activity and efforts of Uzbekistan to assist in ensuring security and stability in Afghanistan and the development of the trade and economic opportunities of this country were noted with satisfaction.
In this context, the holding of the 11th annual meeting of the States Parties of the Memorandum of Understanding on regional cooperation in drug control in Central Asia in April of this year will be one of the important joint activities of 2019 to expand the capabilities of the countries of the region to support and further develop dialogue and improvement of interaction in this area.
At the meeting, other issues on the common agenda were also considered.
