JSC Uzbekistan Railways is considering the possibility of building another high-speed railroad to Samarkand, Kun.uz correspondent reports citing a source in the company.
“Recently, the company’s leadership raised the issue of building another railway line from Tashkent to Samarkand, which will only be used by “Afrosiyob” trains. This will shorten the journey to approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. Now, a high-speed electric train crosses 333 kilometers between the cities in 2 hours and 8 minutes,” the source said. “This proposal is only at the development stage.”
In addition, Uzbekistan Railways is in talks with the Spanish company Talgo and the Korean Hyundai to buy new high-speed trains.
For information, high-speed trains connect the capital and the ancient city of Samarkand since 2011.
