President of Uzbekistan is awarded for merits to the trade union movement

The General Confederation of Trade Unions (GCTU) has awarded President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev with an honorary gold badge “For merits to the trade union movement”. This decision was unanimously adopted at the on-site meeting of the Executive Committee of the GCTU in Tashkent on December 24, the press service of the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan reported.

It was noted in the message that the head of state was awarded for his significant personal contribution to ensuring the socio-economic interests of the working people of of Uzbekistan, strengthening social partnership at the national level and increasing the authority of the trade unions of Uzbekistan.

The meeting also considered the issue of the Uzbek Federation of Trade Unions’ joining the GCTU. This proposal was also unanimously approved.

It is expected that Uzbekistan’s joining the GCTU gives support for the confederation and its members (trade union centers) in international organizations.

GCTU unites eight national trade union centers of the CIS countries and 26 international sectorial associations of trade unions – in total 34 member organizations.

The General Confederation of Trade Unions is recognized at the intergovernmental level in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). It has the status of an observer in the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS member states. GCTU participates in the work of the CIS Economic Council, sectorial and other intergovernmental bodies of the Commonwealth.
