The delegation of Uzbekistan led by Bakhtiyor Gulyamov, the head of the State Inspectorate of “Sanoatgeokontekhnazorat”, held talks at the institutions and organizations of the European Union and Belgium, the press service of the Foreign Ministry reported.
During the meetings held at the European External Action Service, the European Commission and the National Crisis Center of Belgium, issues of development and strengthening of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EU, reducing the risks of exposure to chemical, biological, radiological materials (CBRNM), including the implementation of specific projects within the framework of the EU Initiative, were discussed.
The CBRNM initiative is a program developed by the EU to neutralize the negative effects of chemical, biological, radiological materials. To date, the Initiative brings together various regions of the world (Africa, Europe, Asia) with over 60 countries.
Uzbekistan joined the program in 2011. Currently, the CBRNM Regional Secretariat for Central Asia is located in Tashkent. In connection with the specificity and commonality of individual issues in the field of the CBRNM, our region also includes Afghanistan, Pakistan and Mongolia.
Within the framework of the Initiative, projects in the field of biosafety and protection, sustainable management of chemical and biological waste and others are implemented in the region.
The negotiations have demonstrated that the European Union attaches particular importance to the development of cooperation with Uzbekistan.
Following the meeting, specific agreements and accords were reached on:
- exchange of experience in the training and re-training of national specialists, organization of special courses and research activities;
- organization of short-term nuclear safety programs aimed at preventing the spread of radioactive substances;
- expansion of cooperation in the protection of infrastructure facilities, the fight against organized crime and terrorism, the security of internal and external borders.
In addition, through the project on biosafety with the European side, an agreement was reached on the acquisition of two mobile laboratories and a system for distance learning for the relevant departments of the republic.
