On December 21, during a session of the Council of People’s Deputies of Tashkent city, an acting khokim of Tashkent Jahongir Ortikhujayev was recommended to the post of khokim of the capital by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. 

“You are well aware that how important Tashkent is for the country. It is not easy to appoint a leader to such a post. Considering this, we tested Jahongir Ortikhujayev as an acting khokim for eight months. It should be admitted that he changed the situation positively during his governance of the city. He strengthened the authority of administration and managed to lead entrepreneurs of the city. Ortikhujayev knows by hearsay the situation in Tashkent, its social-economic potential, its inhabitants and activists. Most importantly, he knows well how to create working places for people,” the head of state said. 
 
Deputies supported Ortikhujayev’s candidacy. Speakers noted that the new khokim and his deputies, including the entire activists of the city, will work to fulfill the tasks set at the session on the accelerated development of the capital. 
  
It should be recalled that Mr. Ortikhujayev was appointed acting khokim of Tashkent at the end of April this year. On this post, he replaced Rakhmonbek Usmonov who worked as khokim of the city for seven years.
