Uzbekistan is ready to supply over 800,000 tonnes of fruits and vegetables a year to Russia, Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiev said during the negotiations with the delegation of Russia.
On 29-31 May, representatives of Ministry of Agriculture of Russia and Russian business circles visited Uzbekistan and held negotiations on issues of increasing shipment of Uzbek vegetables and fruits to the Russian market.

The delegation of Russia held talks with the Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiev. During the meeting, Mr. Ganiev said that the Uzbek side is interesting in increasing supply of fruits and vegetables to Russia. He said that Uzbekistan is ready 800,000 tonnes of fruits, vegetables, as well as melons and grapes a year to Russia.

At the talks, the sides considered opportunities of long-term cooperation. They decided to create a special working group, which will address problems, hindering growth of agriculture supplies from Uzbekistan to Russia.

According to the Russian Agriculture Ministry, the delegation also held meeting with officials of other ministries and departments. The sides considered issues of cooperation in agriculture sector, including quarantine of the products.

The Russian delegation also visited several agriculture companies and production capacities on processing agriculture goods.

Uzbekistan produced 12.59 million tonnes of vegetables, including potatoes, in 2015, as well as 1.85 million tonnes of melons, 1.55 million tonnes of grapes and 2.73 million tonnes of fruits.

According to the Eurasian Commission, Uzbekistan supplied over 48,000 tonnes of fruits and vegetables, including dried and frozen, for US$33.4 million to Russia in 2015.
