Officials from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are discussing the possibility of allowing citizens of both countries to cross the state border using national ID cards. This was announced by Abduaziz Kamilov, the Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Foreign Policy Affairs.

"Today, the borders between Uzbekistan and the Central Asian countries can rightfully be called bridges of friendship and good neighborliness. The confirmation of this is the procedure, effective since September 1, 2023, which allows crossing the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan border with the presentation of an internal document—a citizen's ID card. A similar project is being discussed with Kazakhstan," Kamilov wrote in his article.

Earlier, during the Central Asian leaders' meeting held on August 9 in Astana, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, proposed the mutual recognition of national ID cards in Central Asia and the development of mass tourism products under the principle "One Tour – Whole Region."
