According to the presidential press service, at the beginning of the meeting, Vladimir Voronkov conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes from the UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the President of Uzbekistan.
The sides explored further development of practical cooperation between Uzbekistan and UN institutions and structures, particularly in combating terrorism and other transnational challenges and threats.
Vladimir Voronkov thanked the leader of our country for supporting the activities of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office and expressed special gratitude to the Uzbek side for practically implementing the initiative to launch the Regional Expert Council. The successful outcomes of the Council's first session in Tashkent were noted.
The Under-Secretary-General of the UN also highly praised the efforts of Uzbekistan in repatriating its citizens from conflict zones and their rehabilitation and reintegration into society, including through the extensive potential and capabilities of neighborhood institutions.
The parties signed the updated "roadmap" for 2024-2025, outlining new directions for collaboration.
Special attention was given to joint activities aiming to protect youth from the destructive influence of extremist and terrorist ideologies and to expand cooperation in training and organizing internships for young specialists at UN institutions.
The sides also exchanged views on the Afghan issue and noted the importance of growing international attention to the situation in the country and continuing to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
