The BGIPU, a founding member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, represents the British Parliament in decision-making at the Union and facilitates consultations with parliaments of other member countries. The BGIPU Executive Committee incorporates 28 representatives from various parties and both parliamentary chambers.
The meeting participants were presented with information on comprehensive reforms implemented in various spheres of society and state, including the development of parliamentarism, human rights and freedoms, and the strengthening of civil society institutions. These reformatory actions reflect the dynamic changes occurring in what is known as the New Uzbekistan.
The British MPs acknowledged the vigorous pace of the democratic transformations in Uzbekistan, having witnessed them firsthand during a delegation visit to the republic from September 25 to 29, 2023.
Both parties agreed on the need to intensify inter-parliamentary dialogue, noting that reinforcing the Uzbek-British inter-parliamentary dialogue would forge additional mechanisms for the future realization of mutually beneficial joint projects in areas of shared interest.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to maintain contact and discuss practical steps to tap into the significant potential for expanded interaction between the legislative bodies of the two countries.
