Earlier, social network users circulated a video showing a police officer tasing a driver. Tashkent region’s GDIA commented on the situation.

According to the police report, the incident happened today at around 12:00 in the city of Angren, Tashkent region.

“The driver, born in 1988, was stopped by the officer for violating driving rules and was asked to present his documents. However, he refused to comply and drove away. The police officer caught up with him near the city farmer’s market, asked him to obey legal requirements, and warned him, but the man insulted the officer and continued to resist. So, the officer had to use a Taser on him,” the report says.

The GDIA noted that police officers have the right to use a Taser in accordance with the law of Uzbekistan “On Internal Affairs Bodies”.

“Currently, additional studies are being conducted to provide a legal assessment of the actions of the participants in the incident,” the report concludes.

In the video, it is almost impossible to confirm if the driver had resisted the officer. He opens the door of his car and comes out of it on his own will.

It should be noted that earlier the Ministry of Internal Affairs proposed a bill to criminalize filming law enforcement officers and circulating their video on the Internet with the aim of discrediting them while they are performing their duties. The bill proposed an arrest for 15 days. Deputies of the Legislative Chamber approved it with a majority of the vote. However, many activists opposed it, saying “it is against the freedom of speech.”
