Uzbekistan Railways is considering the issue of increasing fares for the Afrosiyob high-speed train in 2024, the First Deputy Chairman of the state company Khikmatulla Rakhmetov told about this at the Verona Eurasian Economic Forum.

“Even if there is indexation – it could happen next year – it will be for Afrosiyob high-speed trains. We depend on the market, on energy prices, we depend on the Swiss franc. There are actually a lot of factors that can affect this indexation,” he said.

Rakhmetov emphasized that railway companies around the world annually index ticket prices as part of their tariff policy, developed by specialists.

Commenting on the increase in railway fares from November 1, the deputy chairman noted that indexation helped reduce the losses of Uzbekistan Railways.

“The only thing is that we raised the tariff, this may cover some small indexation of prices that we are monitoring on the market today. This is inflation, increased prices for energy resources, spare parts, and so on. Our loss point was very high, now it is also high, but due to a small change, this loss point may be slightly reduced,” Rakhmetov he noted.

According to him, passenger transportation is unprofitable not only in Uzbekistan, but also in many other countries of the world.

According to the presidential decree, from next year tickets for Afrosiyob will be sold at market prices. In addition, state regulation of tariffs for railway transportation is being cancelled.
