Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defense and Security Tolibjon Madumarov criticized the state of affairs in the field of road safety.

According to the chairman of the Senate committee, in the eight months of 2023, more than 9 million violations of traffic rules were recorded throughout the country, including about 8 million serious violations, about 26 thousand cases of drunk driving, more than 161 thousand violations of pedestrian traffic rules.

As a result, during this period, 5,772 road accidents occurred, in which 5,448 citizens were injured and 1,415 citizens died. Including, in August, 300 citizens died untimely in 1,000 road accidents.

It has been established that today in our country, there are about 11 thousand pedestrian crossings, and only 1,834 of them have traffic lights and other road signs that serve to ensure the safety of pedestrians.

At most uncontrolled pedestrian crossings, road signs are not installed to warn drivers about this object in a timely manner, and the road lines are drawn incorrectly.

In addition, unregulated pedestrian crossings are not provided with sufficient artificial lighting at night, so most accidents occur at night.

According to the analysis, in 2021-2023, 2,784 accidents occurred at unregulated pedestrian crossings, of which 1,007 occurred at night.

Ignoring by drivers of pedestrians at unregulated pedestrian crossings is also the reason for the increase in road accidents, and such cases are becoming more and more every year.

For example, in 2021, the number of administrative violations applied to drivers for driving without giving way to pedestrians was 101,796, in 2022 this figure was 142,967, and for 8 months of 2023 – 90,211.

However, over the past 2 years, 1 decree and 1 decision of the head of state, 1 decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, as well as a “roadmap” were adopted, aimed at reliably ensuring the safety of people on roads.

Propaganda of traffic rules among young people, including in educational institutions, is not at the proper level. Almost every day on social networks you can see many minors violating traffic rules.

In addition, the work begun on the construction of parking lots around metro stations at the entrance to the capital has not been fully implemented.

Therefore, we would like to ask the leadership of the Road Safety Service of the MIA Public Security Department: What other legal and organizational support is needed for the system you head?!
