On September 4, Assistant to the President of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva and Director General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay opened the exhibition “Abu Rayhan Beruni. Geographical and intellectual journeys” at the headquarters of the organization in Paris. The exhibition is dedicated to the 1050th anniversary of the great scholar’s birth.
Visitors can learn about Abu Rayhan Beruni’s life and work, discovery and research with the help of visual installations. In the exposition, a special spot is devoted to the manuscripts of the scholar collected from the collection of the National Library of France.
“I think that this project will arouse great interest in the European public and will further enrich the imagination of the Uzbek land, which is proud of the heritage of our great scholars,” Saida Mirziyoyeva said.
She also announced that Uzbekistan is ready to hold the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand in 2025.
“If this proposal is approved, this historic event can change the more than 40-year tradition of convening UNESCO sessions only in Paris,” Mirziyoyeva said.
For information, UNESCO is a special organization of the United Nations in the fields of education, science and culture. The organization was founded on November 16, 1945. Uzbekistan became a member of UNESCO on October 26, 1993.
