UzGazTrade and Turkmengas companies signed a short-term contract to supply up to 2 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas to Uzbekistan. The Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov informed about this in an interview with the mass media of Turkmenistan.
Such an agreement was reached during the negotiations between the Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov and the Deputy PM of Turkmenistan for the fuel and energy complex Botir Amanov. The meeting took place in Ashgabat.
"This is the beginning. We discussed broad prospects for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation. This includes developing a long-term contract. The gas will be directed for internal needs of Uzbekistan," Mirzamakhmudov said.
In addition, issues of mutual cooperation in the field of transit of electricity to third countries, supply of oil and oil products were discussed at the meeting.
Earlier, within the tripartite summit held in Ashgabat on August 4, 2023, the delegation of Turkmenistan put forward the initiative to develop cooperation in the gas sector with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. At the meeting, the Turkmen side proposed strategic cooperation in the gas sector to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
It should be recalled that in December 2022, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan for the first time reached an agreement on short-term gas supply through bilateral negotiations, without the participation of a third party. At that time, official sources said anonymously that it was agreed to import 20 million cubic meters of gas per day (a total of 1.5 billion cubic meters in 3 months).
