During the visit of the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan Zulfiya Sulaymanova to Uzbekistan, an agreement was reached with the Uzbek side to increase the flow of water to the Chordara reservoir up to 200 m³/s, Kazinform reported.

As of July 28, the volume of water flow from the Dustlik waterworks to the Syrdarya was 20 m³/s. It is said that the Uzbek side intends to increase the water flow to 50 m³/s.

In addition, on this day, the flow of water from the Charvak reservoir (Ghazalkent HPP) was increased from 290 m³/s to 310 m³/s. However, it is noted that this volume of water is not enough to supply water to the Syrdarya and to supply it through water management canals for the irrigation needs of the Chirchik river basin.

Chordara reservoir is located in the Turkestan region of Kazakhstan and was established in 1966. It is 80 km long and 25 km wide.

Earlier, it was reported that Kazakhstan may revise the water agreement signed with Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The document regulates the use of Syrdarya resources in the field of irrigation and energy.
